 Title of the Lesson/Activity: Teaching Fitness to Individuals with Visual Impairments or Deafblindness Date: November 10th Time (Eastern): 7:00 pm Duration: 1 hour Description: Individuals with Visual Impairments have significantly higher rates of obesity than their sighted peers at all ages. It is critical to teach children with visual impairments how to be physically active and incorporate physical activity into their lifestyle to lead a healthy life throughout their lifespan. This webinar will provide resources and effective tips and strategies to encourage fitness and self-advocacy in schools and the community. The talk will provide resources, tips and strategies for guide running and fitness activities as well as self-advocacy for leading an active lifestyle in schools and the community. Learning Objectives: Understand the critical need for encouraging fitness and physical activity in individuals with visual impairments Understand guide running techniques with and without a human guide Examine effective strategies and tips for a variety of fitness activities and finding a fitness buddy Learn available resources for fitness programming in the community and online Promote self-advocacy skills for participants to access fitness skills and activities on a daily basis
