OAER encompasses a diverse group including Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Rehabilitation Teachers and Counselors, Orientation & Mobility Specialists, individuals with disabilities, family members, and retired professionals. While our backgrounds are varied, we have much in common; we all strive to enhance and improve the lives of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. As we know, the likelihood of acquiring a visual condition as we age increases, but the question is, how do we keep these older adults engaged in their communities and allow them to age in place?Dynamic speakers have been selected to reflect the diversity of OAER, and they've been given the lofty goal of designing their presentations to discuss the ways in which we as professionals can keep older adults with vision loss as independent as possible. Sessions will include information on technology that can assist the older adult, home modifications, and transportation options to keep these individuals engaged in their communities. At this year's Annual OAER Conference, we will also learn how older adults who are blind and visually impaired can engage in exercise and leisure activities.
