As we understand more and more about the impact of CVI on the visual brain, we need to look to research in the field and to multiple assessment tools in order to effectively assess and program plan for our students with CVI. We now understand the huge variety of ways that the very complex visual brain can be impacted depending on the parts of the brain impacted, on the age of the child and on the visual opportunities that individual student has experienced. We must recognize that the child with CVI shares accessibility needs with all children with visual impairments and shares the need for all senses to have developmental consideration that includes visual access. |
