 Description: Sometimes you need a concentrated burst of information. That s what this webinar is. In a surprisingly small package, it provides a delicious base of Nemeth Code concepts. We will also discuss recipes for further study and reference, including tips for using braille transcription programs.Instructor: Kyle DeJuteInstructor s Title: Braille TrainerInstructor s Affiliation: American Printing House for the BlindInstructor s Email: kdejute@aph.orgPrimary Core or ECC Area: Compensatory Skills (specifically, braille)Target Audience: transcribers, teachers of the visually impaired, paraprofessionals who know braille, prison braille groupsPre-requisite knowledge: at least basic braille knowledge, completion of at least a braille 101 course is a plusLesson Plan Goal: Set up participants with basic knowledge of UEB with Nemeth and get them familiar with resources related to the Nemeth Code so that they can produce braille materials more accurately and develop their expertise effectivelyLearning Objectives: 1) Explain why using lower-cell numbers allows for fewer braille indicators, 2) Identify opening Nemeth Code indicator and Nemeth Code terminator, 3) Transcribe letters with subscript numbers correctly in Nemeth Code [i.e., without subscript indicator], 4) remember APH s Math Symbol Reference Booklets and how they can be used to look up symbols with examples, 5) Describe the benefits of a template file from which to copy/paste Nemeth Code codes & constructions [or an individualized shortcut]Materials Needed: None
