Description: The 4to24 app provides information to youth with blindness or low vision and their parents to empower and engage them throughout their education. Starting young to build skills, knowledge, and confidence is beneficial to future success, particularly for employment. This session will describe the 4to24 app, how it works, and what it offers to families to support transition and learning over the ages. Instructor: Karla Antonelli Instructor s Title: Research Scientist I Instructor s Affiliation: National Research & Training Center on Blindness & Low Vision, Mississippi State University Bio: Karla Antonelli received her PhD in cognitive science from Mississippi State University, which included study on human factors design and usability. As a principal investigator at the NRTC she led the development of the 4to24 app for parents and youth, and has contributed to projects on job search skills, mentoring, transportation, and transition for people with blindness or low vision. Lesson Plan Goal: This session will describe the 4to24 app, how it works, and what it offers to families to support transition and growth over a large age span. Attendees will become familiar with how the app was developed and will hear samples of the app s content and topics. Learning Objectives: Attendees will: Identify the target audience for the 4to24 app, and discuss how and why it was developed. Discuss how 4to24 customizes delivery of information modules to be relevant and timely for the user. Identify the focus and purpose of 4to24 and its intended benefits. Materials Needed: None |
