Description of CE Program/Activity
 Description: There are many forms of symbol communication systems. Their purpose is to make communication easier for a student with a visual and multiple impairment who has difficulty with spoken language or difficulty using written language. The symbols are often highly individual but are linked to meaning for a particular student. Tactile symbol communication systems are designed for a nonverbal student who does not have enough vision to use a visual symbol system. We are going to walk through three products by APH, the communication continuum, and the reasons for each step. Pre-requisite knowledge: A basic understanding of Piaget s principles. Learning Objectives: Participants will identify three communication tools for use with individuals with visual and multiple impairments. Participants will differentiate the three communication tools paired with various needs of individuals with visual and multiple impairments. Participants will describe three techniques for modifying instructional methods in communication for individuals with visual and multiple impairments. Materials Needed: Worksheet
