Description: Where to start with Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT)? We start with the program s nuts and bolts. We will clearly explain the inner workings of DBT, and how you can get it to purr or quack happily for you. Instructor: Kyle DeJute Instructor s Title: Braille Trainer Instructor s Affiliation: American Printing House for the Blind Instructor s Email: kdejute@aph.org Primary Core or ECC Area: Compensatory Skills (specifically, braille) and Assistive Technology Target Audience: transcribers, teachers of the visually impaired, paraprofessionals who know braille, prison braille groups, administrators, anyone who uses DBT or assigns someone else to use it Pre-requisite knowledge: basic braille knowledge Lesson Plan Goal: Explain software concepts that are foundational for using Duxbury Braille Translator (DBT) and demonstrate how those concepts affect braille transcription Learning Objectives: 1) identify and describe the three file types created by DBT [.dxp, .dxb, .brf], 2) define character style, paragraph style, and code in regard to DBT, 3) describe what a template is in regard to DBT, 4) Explain and locate the setting read formatted braille without interpretation , 5) identify that DBT documentation [i.e., help menu ] is available online Materials Needed: It is not necessary, but having a copy of DBT installed and ready to use is ideal. |
