Description of CE Program/Activity
 This course highlights the updates in technology and treatment options in the field of low vision rehabilitation with emphasis on inherited retinal diseases. This course will use cases to review relevant ocular diseases, retinal anatomy, and low vision concepts. It will discuss current and future optical and non-optical management of low vision patients with inherited retinal disease. The role of genetic testing in the treatment and management of low vision patients will be reviewed. The indication of diagnostic testing in the monitoring of inherited retinal disease will be discussed. Past, current, and future treatment and therapy pertaining to inherited retinal diseases will be reviewed. Case reports and current research will be utilized.Objectives:1. Review relevant ocular diseases and retinal anatomy.2. Review low vision concepts pertaining to patients with an inherited retinal disease.3. Discuss current and future low vision devices, including head mounted virtual reality (VR) devices.4. Discuss the role of genetic testing and gene therapy in treatment and management of inherited retinal disease.5. Review the indication for utilizing current diagnostic technologies such as fundus autofluorescence and electro diagnostic testing in the monitoring of inherited retinal disease.6. Discuss current and future treatments for inherited retinal diseases.
