Description of CE Program/Activity
The theme of the conference is largely readiness for employment, transition and the effects of Covid on adults with visual impairment.The component on employment will consist of a through explanation of The Americans with Disabilities Act. Discussion of employers requirements to provide job applicants and employees with disabilities reasonable accommodations that allow them to enjoy equal employment opportunities. Providing ideas for accommodations depending on the needs of the individua that will support those students in the work force for those students or employers who need to make adjustments or modifications for those who are blind or visually impaired.The component on Covid will be a discussion of social isolation (and its affects on individuals with low vision during the pandemic . Ideas from professionals who work with individual who are blind on how to safeguard students and keep them connected. There will be a piece on healthy habits for high school students that will assist in transition to college. Creating a culture of well-being and empowering students to learn healthy habits. Equipping them with training and resources is the first step towards bolstering mental health on the campus level. Providing students with information and skills to identify the students struggling with mental health issues and referring those students to campus mental health providers.
