 Description: The employment rate for individuals with visual impairments is approximately 37% and remains relatively unchanged for decades. The Road Ahead webinar series guides educators to move beyond triaged transition planning with the goal of changing the trajectory for all students. Attend this webinar to better understand what is meant by career readiness skills for middle school age students, identify ways to guide students to discover suitable careers, and how to embed career readiness skills within all areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum. Instructor: Erika Fundelius Instructor s Title: Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment, Certified Orientation & Mobility Specialist, doctoral student Instructor s Affiliation: Florida State University Primary Core or ECC Area: ECC: Career Education Target Audience: Teachers of Students with Visual Impairment, IEP team members Lesson Plan Goal: Participants will discuss importance of career readiness skills for middle school students and describe how to embed skills within educational programming. Learning Objectives: Describe career readiness skills of middle school age students. Analyze transition practices of organizations. Identify ways to guide students to discover suitable careers. Develop a plan to embed career readiness within educational programming, including collaboration within the IEP process.
