Description of CE Program/Activity
 Description: Many teachers of students with visual impairments encounter difficult conversations with parents and caregivers, particularly in Early Intervention when families are just learning of their child s visual diagnosis. During this session, a panel of vision professionals will discuss the challenges and offer advice when having hard but necessary conversations with families. Instructor s Affiliation: Illinois School for the Visually Impaired Primary Core or ECC Area: Compensatory Target Audience: Professionals and Caregivers Pre-requisite knowledge: None Materials Needed: None Lesson Plan Goal: The webinar will focus on how to have difficult but necessary conversations with families as a teacher of students with visual impairments while teaching in the schools and in Early Intervention. The panel of professionals will share their experiences and offer suggestions as to how one can successfully build rapport and trust with parents and caregivers they work so closely with through conversations during such difficult and challenging times. Learning Objectives: The participant will identify three commonly asked questions by parents/caregivers regarding their child s vision loss or diagnosis. The participant will identify three challenges vision professionals face when having hard but necessary conversations with parents/caregivers.
