Description of CE Program/Activity
This course reviews the collaborative and interdisciplinary approach to a low vision examination and evaluation. We will discuss the elements of a low vision evaluation from an optometric point of view and the proper referrals to the rehabilitation team member, specifically the occupational therapist. We will review an occupational therapists role in the rehabilitation of our low vision patients, including but not limited to activities of daily living, low vision devices and non-optical approaches in a case based delivery. Billing practices will also be discussed. Objectives: 1. Review the definition of low vision. 2. Explain activities of daily living and how occupational therapists have a role in the rehabilitation of our low vision patients. 3. Review and discuss 3 low vision cases and the interaction between the low vision optometrist and occupational therapist. 4. Explore options for referring to occupational therapists and the areas they cover. 5. Discuss functional evaluations when working with patients with reduced vision. 6. Review billing for occupational therapy evaluations and progress notes.
