 Description: Early literacy is so much more than just books! In this session, we will discuss how all areas of development cognitive, motor, social, language, vision, compensatory, self-help - are strengthened by building early literacy skills. Strategies to build your child s or student s emerging literacy skills that can be easily integrated into daily routines with the use of household materials will also be shared. Instructor: Sara Edwards Instructor s Title: TVI, DT/Vision Specialist and Evaluator in the IL Early Intervention Program. Instructor s Affiliation: Illinois School for the Visually Impaired Primary Core or ECC Area: Compensatory Target Audience: Professionals and Caregivers Pre-requisite knowledge: None Materials Needed: None Lesson Plan Goal: The webinar will focus on early literacy skills; what are they and how they can promote progress in all areas of development. Learning Objectives: The participant will be able to define early literacy skills. The participant will correctly identify 6 areas of development that are strengthened by early literacy skills. The participant will correctly identify 3 key components of early literacy. The participant will correctly identify 2 strategies that promote early literacy skills within each area of development. The participant will review early literacy skills strategies for students diagnosed with CVI.
