Mentor Training is designed for individuals (TVI/COMS) who have been recommended to serve as a mentor to new VI professionals (aka proteges) in the state of Texas. This training is required for admission into the Mentor Program. The training includes an on-line Mentor Training course that can be completed in 2 hours, plus a face-to-face training at TSBVI that covers such topics as: - Stages of concern for the beginning professional
- active listening techniques
- developing consultation skills in the protg
- Educating VI Students in Texas: Guidelines and Standards
- Legal Framework for Educating VI Students
- Guiding the protg through best practice, such as conducting an FVE and O&M evaluation, organization for the itinerant model, documenting service delivery, etc.
- Required record keeping for mentors
