Tactile Maps Automated Production (TMAP), a project promoting independent travel and tactile map literacy for people with no or limited vision, has timely applications for O&M instruction in a time of distance learning. This webinar instructs people in use of the free TMAP web-app, and shares the O&M perspectives of three practitioners in the field, covering such things as when and how to use TMAP with students, case studies, and prerequisite readiness skills - a series of skills building exercises that lead students to be able to use and understand TMAPs.Goals of the Presentation: Gain an understanding of how to use the TMAP web-app to generate braille and tactile street maps of any address, to supplement Orientation and Mobility instruction. Identify implications for use of TMAP in O&M instruction including route preview, environmental literacy, and spatial awareness. Identify strategies to teach map-reading readiness skills.Presenters: Greg Kehret, BM, Lighthouse-SF; Sarah McIntyre, MA COMS, Lighthouse-SF; Jennifer Huey, MA COMS, Lighthouse-SF; Steve Lowry, MA TVI COMS, Washington State School for the Blind |
