Description of CE Program/Activity
Blind Rehabilitation Services provides a comprehensive rehabilitation program, including skill acquisition, psychosocial adjustment, and community reentry for persons served. This is accomplished through a full care continuum provided by residential and/or community-based blind rehabilitation services. The Blind Rehabilitation Service in WPB continues to provide training in a virtual environment. Veterans interested in the regular program may benefit from basic/modified training as a foundation for future admissions. The Blind Rehabilitation Center (BRC) provides education and training to Veterans who are blind and visually impaired so they can acquire the necessary skills to independently identify and access resources. The services are a proactive force in the community, using information gathered from Veterans and their families to promote the development of new resources. An effective rehabilitation assessment fosters discussion of shared and reasonable goals for the program; discussion of possible interventions that will ameliorate the difficulties leads to an individualized, shared rehabilitation plan that is agreed upon by the Veteran and significant others as well as the professionals providing services.
