Description of CE Program/Activity
Instruction Platform: Zoom with live sessions, pre-recorded sessions, and live Q&A sessionsIntroduction Session One: Live 90 minutes (60 mins plus 30 mins Q&A)Review of the Career Education Model - the need for and importance of career education across the lifespan of individuals with visual impairment (birth through death model). In this initial session, I will introduce the need for a team to focus on the skills and knowledge required to work with children and youth with visual impairments as well as their families to meet the young people s career awareness and employment preparation needs. In addition, I will explain to participants the structure of the sessions that will follow. Sessions will be devoted to content in the following areas: Conveying high expectations, encouraging socialization, refining nonvisual techniques or compensatory skills, providing realistic feedback, and promoting opportunities for work. Sessions will focus on activities for children, youth, and their parents based on age range (preschool, elementary, middle school, high school, and postsecondary) and ability levels (informational, instructional, and advocacy). Each session will include a PowerPoint presentation and a related resources list.
