Description of CE Program/Activity
The greatest percentage of those with visual impairment in the US is over the age of 65. Adults over the age of 75 have the highest rates of TBI hospitalization and 66% of those that experience stroke are 65 and older. Thus it is very likely that those with visual impairment will have co-morbidities including physical, cognitive and speech/language deficits as well as mental health issues that may need to be considered during visual rehabilitation. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the management of those with visual impairment that have experienced acquired brain injury (stroke and traumatic brain injury) with multiple comorbidities through case presentations.Instruction Level: IntermediateLearning Objectives: 1. List the more common comorbidities that occur with ABI. 2. Recognize the need to consult with other disciplines to address the comorbid issues that may affect vision rehabilitation. 3. Describe examination techniques that can be utilized with persons that have comorbidities that may affect their ability to communicate/understand.
