Description of CE Program/Activity
Students with complex communication needs who need augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems may lack the power to say what they want to say and to authentically participate and make progress in school. In this two-part training series, participants will learn evidence-based strategies to support classroom communication in ways that provide students using AAC with that power. In part 2, participants will build on the foundational concepts learned in Part 1 as they are guided through POWER:AAC modules 7-12 and apply concepts for practicing partner skills, teaching vocabulary, use in the classroom and at home, collect evidence, share resources, and more. Participants will be expected to view assigned POWER:AAC modules and bring questions and ideas to the monthly live training sessions.Session Expectations include: 1.Participants will view six (6) POWER: AAC Modules using a flipped classroom model by viewing webinars outside of the online activities prior to attending each of the four live sessions.2.Handouts will be available for participants to download and view during this viewing process.3.Participants will complete a survey after viewing each module to help guide our online sessions.4.Participants will attend four live online sessions.5.A monthly activity will be assigned based on each module.Course Content Disclosure:This course will feature content from the POWER: AAC modules designed for the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN).POWER:AAC is a training series developed by PaTTAN with Gail Van Tatenhove, CCC-SLP.
