Description of CE Program/Activity
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the most common diagnosis in patients seen at Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals due to the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. This presentation will review the definitions of TBI severity, discuss clinical presentations of TBI, and will address the role of vision rehabilitation in patients with history of TBI. Insights into the perspective of the Department of Defense and the Veterans Health Administration will presented in this course. The importance for the need of evidence-based treatment and management of TBI will also be discussed, as well as the importance of using available literature to improve visual symptoms and quality of life. 1. Review the definition and classification of TBI. 2. Characterize military standards and criteria for managing TBI. 2. Discuss a clinical case while considering other deployment-related factors.
