Description of CE Program/Activity
Regardless of a vision impairment, moving about in our community provides mobility, independence and freedom. These are common attributes most adolescents and adults are seeking. This workshop will provide information on Motor Vehicle Department vision requirements in Arizona as an example for restricted and non-restricted drivers licenses, and how to navigate a typical medical review program. Bioptic driving is permitted in most states as an adaptive method of driving, though requirements can vary considerably. We will discuss the pre-driving and driving recommendations common for those needing to drive with a bioptic lens. Outcomes:Attendees will be able to identify the 3 areas of skill needed to driveAttendees will be familiar with vision standards using Arizona as an example, and identify how to locate these standards in their stateAttendees will be able to state the basic hierarchy of on road trainingWith 15 years of experience in acute care and rehabilitation based Occupational Therapy, Jenny Nordine had a strong desire to develop a driving program to provide the ultimate level of independence. This passion was developed into Driving to Independence in 2000. Jenny and her team serve clients all over Arizona to ensure each driver is safe and independent with this incredibly important activity. She recognizes the importance driving has in each of our lives and works to ensure each driver demonstrates the skills to be a safe driver.
