Description of CE Program/Activity
 Ever wondered why some people are trained using sleep shades/ blindfold? What might be some benefits or some disadvantages of this type of training? Is it necessary, if someone is already functionally blind? Should this training be taught only to people who have a degenerative eye disease? Come join us to get these questions answered and more! During this presentation, we will go over some of the history of blindness training and truly dissect what it means to use or not use blindfolds in training. Outcomes:1.Participants will come away with a basic understanding of the history of orientation and mobility training and how it relates to blindfold training.2.Participants will come away with an understanding of different types of teaching styles to use with their students.3.Participants will get a basic understanding of the reasons behind sleep shade training.Tarik graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Masters in Guidance and Counseling with certifications in Orientation and Mobility, (NOMC) and Rehabilitation Teaching for the Blind (NCRTB). Mr. Williams received his Bachelors from West Chester University in English with a minor in secondary education. Mr. Williams has been in the field of O&M for the past 4 years. Mr. Williams is currently the Student Service Coordinator as well as an O&M instructor at SAAVI Services for the Blind in Tucson. Mr. Williams teaches using Structured Discovery principles. Mr. Williams is currently a board member for the National Association of Blind Students. Mr. Williams has worked closely with blind students around the nation in coordinating leadership programs and mentoring.
