Vision loss combined with multiple disabilities can result in delays in many aspects of development which can often interrupt a students learning and progress in the classroom. In this presentation, we will discuss the impact of vision loss and multiple disabilities on sensory integration development. We will use sensory integration theory as a framework to explore potential sensory processing difficulties observed in our students and share sensory-based strategies to encourage sensory integration, regulation, and unconventional participation in classroom activities. Objectives:"Identify the impact of visual impairment on overall development including sensory integration development *With emphasis on multiple disabilitiesCompare sensory integration and sensory efficiency through both an occupational therapist and TVI lens Identify potential sensory processing difficulties observed in the classroomDifferentiate between sensory system over-responsiveness vs. under-responsivenessDiscuss sensory integration strategies that can be easily implemented into the classroom Share success stories " |
