Description of CE Program/Activity
In the field of visual impairments, exciting new pieces of technology have been developed in the last few years. Providing emergent braille readers fun and innovative ways to play with braille has been a challenge. Sighted peers have always had access to entertaining, technology-based products that encourage early language and reading development. For example, there are a variety of items that speak, light up, and play games when letters of the alphabet are pressed. Children that have limited or no vision did not have this same opportunity to encounter braille - until now. If you are interested in learning how to use the new BrailleBuzz to enhance your traditional braille instruction, this is the webinar for you. The BrailleBuzz is easy to use, highly motivating for both students and parents, and encourages braille literacy skills at an early age! First Learning Objective: Compare BrailleBuzz to the standard Perkins Brailler and identify at least two of the benefits and restrictions of each device. Second Learning Objective: Demonstrate use of BrailleBuzz and its three different modalities. Third Learning Objective: Discuss three benefits of incorporating BrailleBuzz into direct braille instruction in the classroom and at home.
