Name of Presentation: Active Learning: Promoting independence and learning in children with multiple special needs. Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: Adapt passive learning environments into active learning environments Use Active Learning strategies and activities as a developmental tool for learning Learn the four stages of the dynamic learning circle Identify disruptions in the dynamic learning circle and create resolutions to re-initiate learning Properly utilize active learning equipment (the Little Room, Resonance Board, HOPSA-dress, Support Bench, Essef Board, Multi-functional table and others). Create appropriate goals for individuals utilizing such equipment. Determine the correct phase of educational treatment to be utilized during Active Learning activities Understand and identify the emotional and intellectual levels of the special needs child. Identifying the role of the adult in promoting skill development Assess a child s developmental level with the use of the Functional Scheme Develop appropriate IEP goals to reflect Active Learning concepts Create or adapt Active Learning perceptual aids and environments to foster learning Reduce self-injurious, self-stimulatory and aggressive behaviors through the correct implementation of Active Learning strategies |
