Description of CE Program/Activity
This workshop focuses on recommended practices in early intervention and early childhood special education as the context for identifying and implementing interventions for infants, toddlers and preschoolers with CVI. Evidence-based practices will be drawn from Lueck, A.L., Chen, D., & Hartmann, E. (in press). CVI Companion Guide . Louisville, KY: APH to Lueck, A.L., Chen, D., Kekelis, L.S., & Hartmann, E. (2008). Developmental guidelines for infants with visual impairments. A guidebook for early intervention (2nd.). Louisville, KY: APH. Topics include the possible manifestations of CVI in young children; potential effects of CVI on early development; strategies to promote social-emotional, communication, cognitive, fine-motor and gross-motor development; and application to early intervention home-based services and preschool settings. Content will be shared through discussion, handouts, observations of video clips and small group learning activities.
