Poor vision health has been associated with certain conditions such as social, health, cultural, economic, and environmental that contribute to various inequities. Yet, there seems to be limited efforts in addressing vision health and gaps that are evident within the state of Kansas. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine states, "coordinated efforts are needed to expand public health capacities and to encourage policies and programs that recognize improved eye and vision health as an important population health outcome and as a means by which to achieve better health equity.". Some of the most notable successes in addressing vision health have been anchored in multidisciplinary collaborations. Strategies developed by these collaborations need to address efforts to support, educate, and promote healthy eye and vision regardless of socioeconomic status, age, and place of residence. 1. Discuss benefit of coalitions and alliances for public health initiatives focusing on vision. 2. Share process creating connections between organizations to become involved in Summit. 3. Expand on need for combining efforts regarding vision health in Kansas, and provide ideas to form similar coalitions in other states. |
