Field staff may be occupationally exposed to a variety of infectious and communicable diseases during the performance of the work-related duties. The diversity of clients serviced by this staff makes their occupational exposures to infectious and communicable diseases sometimes challenging. Staff that visit homes, shelters, long care facilities and other environments may be exposed to an extensive list of diseases. Ensuring that staff are given the information, skills and tools to remain safe is the focus for this training. During the program the participants will gain an understanding of how infectious and communicable diseases are transmitted, how to prevent transmission and what to do if they suspect they have been exposed. Because the exposures for this staff can be exhaustive, the training will include some of the most common exposures for current Massachusetts staff. The resources will provide information on other possible exposures and how to prevent them. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Provide an overview of the infectious diseases that may be transmitted during the performance of regular work duties. 2. Review of the standard precaution procedures for preventing transmission of infectious disease during a field visit. 3. Provide recommended tips, techniques, and protocols for infection prevention and control while conducting a visit. 4. Provide resources and fact sheets about infection prevention and control for staff working with individuals and families. |
