Description of CE Program/Activity
The Open Hands Open Access (OHOA) Deaf-Blind Intervener Learning Modules are a national resource designed to increase awareness, knowledge, and skills related to intervention for students who are deaf-blind and are being served in educational settings. This program will be hosted throughout the school year by the PA Deaf-Blind Project for both educational teams and interested individual participants with the desire to understand the unique educational needs of students who experience deaf-blindness. Participants must commit to the entire training program. This session will introduce the individual modules and describe timelines, organization and training guidelines.ObjectivesAt the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:Summarize the complex and unique effects of combined vision and hearing loss on all students who are deaf-blind (e.g. communication, challenges in accessing information, orientation and mobility, isolating effects, opportunities for incidental learning).Identify the essential elements of collaborative teaming and its impact on the educational needs of students with deaf-blindness.Describe the development and scope of the Open Hands Open Access (OHOA): Deaf-Blind Intervener Learning Modules and its importance to educators and para- educators serving students with combined vision and hearing loss.
