This two-part course entitled Predictors of Outcomes for SSDI Beneficiaries: Socio-demographic Factors, based on research findings of Dr. J. Martin Giesen, focuses on the demographic and socio-economic factors that are associated with competitive employment outcomes for SSDI beneficiaries. For the first time, state-level environment factors such as unemployment rate, state economics, and state agency structure are considered along with individual characteristics. Findings reinforce some expected effects but also present some surprises for agency structure type, race/ethnicity differences, and the work experience of SSDI beneficiaries. The second part is a round table discussion, led by BJ LeJeune from the NRTC, with rehabilitation practitioners Felicia Williams, CRC (VA), Diane Frigon, CRC (ME), Zenaida Olivas, CRC (TX), and Joanne Lannan, CRC (GA). These counselors and field supervisors discuss issues they have experienced with this population, and discuss how these research findings of Dr. Giesen might be put into practice to help improve employment outcomes. Listen to both parts and pass a quiz for 1.5 CE credits. This course was funded in part by NIDILRR grant number 90RT5011-01-00. |
