Description of CE Program/Activity
The Association of Massachusetts Educators of Students with Visual Impairments is excited to announce our annual Spring Conference, " CVI Diagnosis, Assessment, and Instruction: Functional Solutions Across the CVI Range for O&M and TVI Practices" at the Carroll Center for the Blind in Newton, MA. The conference will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 8am-3:30pm. This conference targets what teachers, instructors, eye care professionals and related service providers need to know regarding this diagnosis, and what they should consider as they work with children who are identified or suspected as having CVI. This conference considers the diagnosis of CVI from three perspectives: the eye care specialist, the teacher of students with visual impairments, and the certified orientation and mobility specialist. Each speaker will address the process of assessment, treatment/intervention, and instruction within his/her discipline. We are fortunate to have Barry Kran, OD, FAAO, provider with New England Eye Perkins Low Vision Clinic; Tammy Reisman, TVI and UMASS Boston Instructor in the Vision Studies training program; and Brianne Killoran, COMS and VRT who has extensive experience and notable success with students with multiple impairments and CVI, sharing their expertise with us. The goal is maximizing visual and practical function, and the workshop focuses on strategies to improve this function. We will also briefly address active shooter considerations in the context of working with and instructing students with visual impairment/blindness.
