Description of CE Program/Activity
The Summer Academy for Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired is a 3-week secondary transition focused program held at Penn State University for high school students who are blind or visually impaired. Within the Summer Academy student program, a 4-day training for teachers of students with visual impairments (TVIs) and certified orientation and mobility specialists (COMS) provides an exciting opportunity to receive intensive hands-on training in Assistive Technology, Daily Living Skills, as well as adapted instructional strategies in STEM. Participants will deepen their knowledge across a wide range of disability specific content to plan and deliver instruction for post-secondary application. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to observe Summer Academy students in these as well as other related content areas, to then apply the new adaptive strategies and assist with group instruction.
