Day 1: Thursday April 5, 2018 Getting Writing on the Radar: Tools and Strategies for Students with Significant DisabilitiesFrom the very start, writing is an unquestioned component of literacy development for typically-developing children. Due to environmental and physical challenges, it can be difficult to prioritize writing for students with significant disabilities. This training will focus on getting writing ON the radar by introducing a variety of writing tools and meaningful strategies to support student success, such as alternative pencils, augmentative and alternative communication devices, and writing apps. Sample goals and assessment strategies for writing will be included, as well as ideas for connecting reading and writing in meaningful ways.Day 2: Friday April 6, 2018AT Access through Multiple LensesMultiple informational and discussion sessions for AT Consultants will focus on issues of Assistive Technology access, including transition with AT/AAC, accessible educational materials, and further exploration of tools for access. Sessions will also address best practices in supporting teams making AT and AAC decisions in IEP development and revision. |
