 Functional Vision Evaluation Training Augusta Career Center December 1st, 2017o9:30-12:30 (O&M, VRT) 1-3:30 (All staff) 9:15-9:30 arrival, Introductions, Housekeeping for day 9:30-11:00 Morning Session: Lori Spencer (Teacher of the Visually Impaired) will be teaching Orientation and Mobility Instructors and Vision Therapists on how to complete a functional vision evaluation on individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Multiple Impairments. Lori will provide strategies to get accurate data and how best to proceed with the client. 11:00-11:10 break 11:10-12:30 Morning Session Continued from above 12:30-1:00 Lunch/Break1:00-3:15 -Afternoon Session: A general discussion with all DBVI staff and Lori Spencer in how best to serve the ID population; Incorporating DHHS Office of Aging and Disability Services to enhance DBVI outreach and vision services to those on waiver services. Providing direct instruction vs. support to staff. How to provide long term information to handle staff changes.3:15-3:30 Debrief and complete evaluationsPresenters Biography:Lori Spencer Lori has treasured the past 36 years working in the field of blindness after graduating from Michigan State University, in 1981, with a BA in Special Education for Visually Impaired Children. Her first 5 years were as an itinerant teacher in the Military ISD Coop in San Antonio. Lori then moved to Maine and has been working for Educational Services for Blind and Visually Impaired Children since 1985. In 1994, she completed her MEd from Vanderbilt University in Orientation & Mobility and has since enjoyed providing both TVI and O&M services to her students. In 2008, Lori completed a 5 year CVI mentor program with Dr. Roman and continues to be the statewide CVI technical advisor for ESBVIC. From 2010-2015, Lori served on the Maine Low Vision Re-design Committee, helping to devise a unified plan for low vision services for the Division for the Blind, IRIS Net
