Join us on Saturday, November 4th as we learn about Metrorail as it pertains to people who are blind or visually impaired. Practice your skills! Travel blindfolded (with an assistant) under the guidance of Metro System Orientation Specialist Brigid Doherty, COMS. Brigid works in Metro s Department of Eligibility Certification and Community Outreach. She will speak about Metro s services for people with disabilities and specifically about teaching our population to ride safely on public transit.THIS EVENT IS FREE TO AER MEMBERS ($25 for non-members)Here s the stuff you need to know.What: A Metro blindfold experience. Although predominantly for O&M Specialists, many could benefit from learning how people who are blind or have low vision travel on Metro. We will travel as a group, in pairs, with one person blindfolded on the way to the destination, and the other person blindfolded for the return route.When: Saturday, November 4th, 10am-4 pm.Where: Begin at Metro Headquarters - 600 5th St. NW, Washington DC, walking distance from: Red Line - Judiciary Square Metro orGreen/Yellow Line - Gallery Place-ChinatownAfter our time at Metro HQ - take Metro to L Enfant Plaza. Lunch on your own at the Plaza.Return to Metro Headquarters to debrief at the end of the in station training.Why: It s educational and fun. The more you know, the better you teach!PLEASE BRING YOUR WHITE CANE IF YOU HAVE ONE.We will be applying for 5.5 ACVREP credit hours.Please register by Thursday, September 28th.
