Description of CE Program/Activity
Since being founded in 1918 by veterans who were blinded in World War I and the Halifax Explosion, CNIB has been creating programs, providing services and advocating to change the lives of people with sight loss from children to youth, to adults and seniors. One of its longest-running initiatives is the CNIB National Braille Conference. CNIB has been hosting its braille conference for more than 40 years. The first conference was a half-day event for Toronto braille volunteers that discussed braille best practice and has grown over the years to be a gathering of people from the vision loss, technology and braille communities covering braille advancements, education and teaching tools. This year's conference, entitled "A Century of Change - Inspired by Braille", will be taking place on October 27 and 28, 2017. The two-day event will be held at CNIB's National Office in Toronto, Ont. The Conference will offer a variety of workshops, roundtables, panels and presentations that are interactive, practical, skill-based, research-based and theoretical. Themes being covered at this year's event include interactive literacy, children and youth, and employment.
