Description of CE Program/Activity
The 2017 MAER Fall Conference will be held November 2nd-3rd at the Mississippi School for the Blind in Jackson, MS. The conference theme for this year is "Together We Can Do So Much". We are honored to have Dr. Cary Supalo as our keynote speaker to present his life story that led him into a career in the sciences. In addition, as a team member at Educational Testing Service he will explain, in a later session of the conference, inclusive assessment design for test takers with disabilities and how ETS addresses these needs. Dr. Supalo is an entrepreneur with his own technology company, Independence Science; a world traveler; national speaker; and a former assistant professor of Chemistry. Crowd favorite, Eric Guillory, from Louisiana Center for the Blind in Ruston, LA will discuss Structured Discovery Through Life, the KNFB Reader, Dropbox, and his favorite accessible iOS apps. Dr. Kristin Johnson, School Psychology Associate Professor, Arkansas State University, and Jeff Ward, a Tennessee attorney with an emphasis in Special Education Law, will face off as they present short and long term views in the "The Dueling Advocates for Education: Different Points of View". Other presentations include: Michelle Miller, an Occupational Therapist, will discuss ranges of Cortical Visual Impairment based on Christine Roman Lantzy's research on working with students with CVI; Anthony Robinson, Apple K-12 Systems Engineer, will discuss iOS Tricks in an interactive session; and Cheri Nip, an Occupational Therapist, will provide discussion and information on Diabetic Retinopathy, Diabetes, and Self-Management Techniques.
