Description of CE Program/Activity
Description This session will focus on embedding intervention practices within family routines to promote the development of young children with multiple disabilities and sensory loss (visual impairment or both a visual impairment and hearing loss). It will highlight the contributions of interdisciplinary team members (early interventionists, early childhood special educators, teachers endorsed in visual impairments, and other disciplines) in collaborating with families to develop and implement learning opportunities for their young children. Information will be provided through short lectures on selected topics, PowerPoint slides, discussion of handouts, observations of videos clips, and plans for application to practice. Participants will apply specific strategies through analysis of video clips, small group activities, and completion of a back home plan. Teams are encouraged to participate in this preconference session. Learning Objectives Participants will: 1.List high risk factors and signs associated with visual impairment and hearing loss. 2.Identify general strategies to promote the use of functional vision and listening skills in young children with visual impairment or visual impairment and hearing loss (deaf-blind). 3.Embed learning opportunities for young child to use functional vision, listening, and communication skills within family routines. 4.Recognize the expertise that each team member contributes to developing and implementing practices with families and their young children with visual impairment and multiple disabilities or deaf-blindness.Register:Registration is Closed
