Driving is a teenager s dream and having low vision may end that dream. TSBVI developed a student-parent weekend program to focus on this topic for potential drivers and discovered a number of unexpected benefits in bringing this population together. The needs of these students typically go undetected as they are placed on consult only level of service. In addition to information on driving, parents gained a new understanding of comprehensive services and students found an identity group. The presenter gives a five-year look at the program model, a summary of participant feedback, and a description of the range of benefits. |
