Description of CE Program/Activity
The courses are examinations to accompany each chapter in the book: Whittaker, SG, Scheiman, M., Sokol-McKay, D. Low Vision Rehabilitation: A Practical Guide for Occupational Therapists. Slack, 2016. Read the chapter, and pass the exam to get CE credit, chapter at a time. Pay per chapter so the study can be paced to meet your needs. Multiple retakes are possible. The book, and tests cover all aspects of low vision rehabilitation including environmental assessment, training protocols, training on use of optical devices, recommending magnification, management of co-morbid cognitive disability and depression, reading, writing, neurological impairment like spatial neglect, management of ADLs and IADLs, use of tablet computers, smartphone, CCTV (EM), and computer-assistive-devices, as well as basic principles of optics, vision science and lighting, presented in a straightforward manner with just enough detail to be useful. The evaluation and treatments are carefully selected to be both evidence-based and practical to use in the clinic. The program is designed to prepare the student for ACVREP certification in low vision and AOTA certification as a SCLV. The first author helped prepare the standards and examinations for the CLVT exam. The tests use the same format used in the examination. This self-study can be designed to meet your individual needs from beginner to advanced practitioner. Email the instructor for advice. Some chapters have 2 examinations and an accompanying presentation. Details in the syllabus that can be downloaded from the web site.
