Children learn best when they are comfortable, alert, and able to engage with the people, materials, and experiences that are available to them. But what happens when children are uncomfortable, drowsy, in the midst of a meltdown, or are unable to accurately perceive the world around them? This workshop will present information that will help teachers, related service providers, and caregivers recognize behaviors that suggest problems with sensory processing and integration, and offer suggestions for helping children achieve and maintain readiness to engage in meaningful learning activities.By looking at how the sensory, motor, and sympathetic nervous systems function individually and most importantly together adults can learn to identify the sensory-seeking and sensory-avoiding behaviors that provide important clues for developing intervention strategies. |
