Description of CE Program/Activity
This workshop will be presented by Dr. Amanda Lueck, author of Vision and the Brain: Understanding Cerebral Visual Impairment in Children. There will also be a session with Dr. Linda Lawrence, Ophthalmologist.Cerebral visual impairment (CVI) can present in a variety of ways in children. Information will be provided for a range of students including those who have severe cognitive challenges as well as students who are academically-oriented. This introductory workshop will discuss different ways in which CVI manifests in children and what to look for when a child is diagnosed with CVI. Through the use of case studies, different patterns of CVI will be discussed. Ocular visual functions as well as higher order processing functions of the visual brain will be addressed in order to understand how each child experiences the world. Practitioners will develop a deeper understanding of CVI that will provide different perspectives on ways to serve children. A basic understanding of ocular visual impairment is recommended for workshop attendees.
