Description of CE Program/Activity
 Pediatric Low Vision: Bridging the Gap between Ocular Diagnosis and Educational NeedsThis course will discuss the most common congenital ocular conditions causing vision loss in the pediatric population. It will discuss specific issues such as early intervention of optical devices for visual enhancement and the importance of addressing an acuity reserve and the consideration of the accommodative system for academic needs. This lecture will emphasize the importance of providing children with visual impairments with the tools and skills to better enable them to become independent and successful in education and future vocational goals.Instruction Level: IntermediateLearning Objectives:1.Prescribe based on a child s specific educational demands.2.Define when to begin incorporating optical devices.3.Consider accommodation reserves and reading reserves when prescribing.4.Recognize that without a teamwork approach which incorporates training, management is incomplete.
