Description of CE Program/Activity
Today, a resurgence in roundabouts is being realized and is very likely to continue. This presentation offers critical knowledge for the Orientation and Mobility instructor as well as for guide dog instructors. It is imperative that those who teach the b/vi pedestrian have knowledge of roundabouts. This presentation briefly discusses the historical significance of roundabouts and differentiates modern day roundabouts from traffic circles. Proper design is essential to the safety of the b/vi traveler. Participants are taught how to recognize that design. There also exist strategies for the safe crossing of a roundabout. These strategies will be discussed as well. While at a modern roundabout, participants will review the parts of the roundabout. Strategies will be discussed for teaching a b/vi traveler to safely cross using white cane as well as dog guide. Students will teach one another and execute a safe roundabout crossing.
