The Orientation and Mobility Instructor will be responsible for all phases of mobility training for the totally blind and
visually impaired person. In addition, the Orientation and Mobility Instructor will provide information and referrals to the
visually impaired in the community as well as related service agencies.
 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Supervises and conducts all mobility training and instruction to visually impaired individuals utilizing the appropriate techniques and travel experiences required.
2. Develops an information and referral system for use by the visually impaired population in the community.
3. Maintains a close working relationship with referral sources to ensure that the needs of persons referred to the facility are met.
4. Generates written reports for mobility assessments and training with emphasis on recommendations and the use of low vision devices, aids and appliances.
5. Maintains all necessary documentation required by the Agency, CARF, and other regulatory and funding organizations.
6. Attend trainings and/or seminars and report CEU’s as required by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP) to maintain certification.
7. Other duties may be assigned.
8. Comply with all Agency policies, procedures and safety standards throughout work areas and maintain same to meet CARF, HIPAA, Department of Labor and other regulatory standards.

Education Requirements

Minimum of a Master’s degree from an accredited university offering orientation and mobility training. One to two years’ experience in mobility training and functional low vision assessment is preferred.

Experience Requirements

Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation, low vision assessment, and orientation and mobility techniques is required.

Employee must maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to Goodwill's liability insurance provider. If at any time the employee is unable to maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to GESMV’s liability insurance provider, they must immediately notify Human Resources. 
Must maintain the ability to pass a criminal background check and random drug screens.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and
occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance
vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is
