President of the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education
Professionals (ACVREP) since April 2008, Garett A. Holm has worked to increase
the recognized value of ACVREP certification in relation to the provision of
quality vision rehabilitation and education services. Understanding that the
certification process promotes professional competency, Holm is a strong advocate
for certification to enhance employer, funder, and consumer confidence in ACVREP
certified professionals.
Holm has served in a variety of professional and volunteer capacities since
1996, including his service as a teacher, school administrator, policy analyst
and advisor to the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Arizona,
and Director of Education and Training for CARF International. Graduating in
1996 with a Bachelors degree in Education from the University of Arizona,
Holm continued his studies at Harvard University receiving a Masters Degree
in Education with a focus on Social Planning, Policy and Administration. During
his studies, Holm was selected as a Morris K. Udall Native American Policy Congressional
Fellow and served under the Honorable Richard Gephardt of Missouri. In addition
to his professional experiences, Holm has served on several volunteer Boards
and has volunteered his services working with numerous organizations to enhance
policy development and program planning and administration.
During his tenure at ACVREP, Holm has focused his attention on improving key
resources to enhance communication between ACVREP and its stakeholders. In addition
to improved stakeholder communication, he hopes to promote a clear and concise
organizational strategic vision and plan that facilitates the long-term sustainability
of ACVREP. This action is critical in supporting professionals and employers
in the field and providing quality vision rehabilitation and education services
that benefit individuals seeking and receiving services, their families and
the communities in which they live.
